Material: Gilt bronze
Period: Early 20th century
Origin: Tibet or Nepal

Catalogue Note

A compact Himalayan gilt bronze figure of Padmasambhava, seated in an ornate headdress and flowing robes. Traces of the original gilding remain across the naturally worn surface. The hollow interior and visible casting marks document its traditional cast construction.

Iconography and Context

Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, is revered as a foundational teacher of Tibetan Buddhism. His distinctive headdress, robes and ritual attributes make the subject immediately recognisable within Himalayan art.

Condition and Display

Surviving gilding, darker recessed areas and wear on raised details create a layered surface. The 9 photographs document the remaining finish, patina, casting and base from multiple viewpoints.

Collector’s Note

A early 20th-century himalayan gilt bronze padmasambhava with compact, display-friendly scale, combining its tibet or nepal gilt bronze character with clearly readable sculptural detail.
