Object Details

Catalogue Note

This large mid-20th-century Nepalese standing Tara is cast in gilt brass and rises to an impressive 78 cm. The elongated stance, calm expression and richly ornamented dress create a commanding vertical sculpture suited to a substantial interior or dedicated Buddhist-art collection.

Standing Tara

The figure is modelled with graceful hand gestures, an elaborate crown, jewellery and layered dress. The controlled posture and finely worked ornament balance devotional calm with the visual richness associated with Himalayan images of Tara.

Scale and Surface

At 8 kg, the sculpture has genuine physical presence. The gilded brass surface shows natural wear and tonal variation, with brighter areas and deeper patina working together to articulate the jewellery, garments and facial features.
