Catalogue Note

This substantial Burmese bronze depicts the Buddha seated in a composed meditation posture. The calm modelling and balanced presence belong to the Theravada devotional tradition of Myanmar.

A naturally aged patina and visible wear across the bronze surface record the sculpture's age and ritual history without diminishing its strong, serene character.

Iconography and Context

Dhyana Mudra places both hands in the lap and expresses concentration, balance and meditative absorption. Its symmetry reinforces the sculpture’s calm, inward-looking presence.

Condition and Display

The bronze with naturally aged patina surface shows the tonal variation, patina and raised-detail wear described in the catalogue note. The 16 photographs document the sculpture from multiple angles, including the reverse and base.

Collector’s Note

A 17th–18th century burmese bronze buddha with balanced display presence, combining its myanmar (burma) bronze with naturally aged patina character with clearly readable sculptural detail.
