Catalogue Note

This Himalayan bronze depicts Shakyamuni Buddha seated in meditation, with both hands resting in Dhyana Mudra around a patra alms bowl. The calm composition expresses concentration and inner balance.

Inlaid eyes give the face a vivid presence, while the flame-like ushnisha and finely cast monastic robes complete the figure. The bronze retains a naturally aged brown patina and an old casting interior visible beneath the base.

Iconography and Context

Dhyana Mudra places both hands in the lap and expresses concentration, balance and meditative absorption. Its symmetry reinforces the sculpture’s calm, inward-looking presence.

Condition and Display

The bronze with natural brown patina surface shows the tonal variation, patina and raised-detail wear described in the catalogue note. The 9 photographs document the sculpture from multiple angles, including the reverse and base.
