Catalogue Note

This old Burmese teak figure represents Thagyamin Nat standing with both hands joined at the chest in Namaskara Mudra. The prayer gesture, tall winged crown and courtly robes express reverence, nobility and service within Myanmar's Theravada Buddhist tradition.

Natural wear has softened the carved details and faded much of the original gilding, leaving a dignified aged surface. The heavy teak remains structurally stable; the wood has been treated and shows no signs of woodworm.

Iconography and Context

The figure belongs to the wider visual culture of Asian Buddhist devotion, where posture, attributes and ornament communicate identity and ritual purpose. The complete photographic sequence helps these iconographic details remain readable from every side.

Condition and Display
