Catalogue Note

A substantial seated Buddha touching the earth with the right hand in Bhumisparsha Mudra, the gesture associated with the moment of enlightenment. The figure is modelled in meditation on a broad lotus base, with a restrained robe draped across the left shoulder.

The bronze surface has a naturally developed patina and areas of devotional wear. Remnants of the original fire gilding survive in protected recesses and around the robe. A minor old dent is visible at the chin; the sculpture remains structurally stable.

The open underside exposes the hollow, hand-cast construction, including asymmetrical interior walls and the rough ritual opening. No modern fillers or mechanical components are present.
