Himalayan standing Tara
This bronze figure depicts Tara in a poised standing posture on a lotus pedestal. She wears a tall crown, jewellery and a finely patterned garment; one hand is raised beside the body while the other extends downward in a circular gesture.
The sculpture was made by traditional hollow casting. Its dark brown to black patina includes green copper oxidation, surface scratches and natural wear consistent with age and handling. The closed base plate has a central perforation and the figure remains structurally stable.
Iconography and Context
Tara is a central bodhisattva of compassion and protection in Himalayan Buddhism. Her poised posture and graceful gestures combine contemplative calm with the idea of compassionate action.
Condition and Display
The cast bronze surface shows the tonal variation, patina and raised-detail wear described in the catalogue note. The 10 photographs document the sculpture from multiple angles, including the reverse and base.
