Catalogue Note

An antique bronze Buddha head with a calm, meditative expression, lowered eyes, elongated earlobes and dense spiral curls rising to a rounded ushnisha. The head originally formed part of a complete figure or architectural setting and is now presented on a later metal display mount.

The surface carries a naturally developed patina with green and brown oxidation embedded across the face, ears and hair. Softened high points and handling wear are consistent with age, while the facial modelling remains clear and balanced.

Iconography and Context

Presented without the full body, a Buddha head concentrates attention on the meditative expression, elongated earlobes, hair treatment and ushnisha. Surface and silhouette become especially important to the sculpture’s impact.

Condition and Display

The bronze surface shows the tonal variation, patina and raised-detail wear described in the catalogue note. The 8 photographs document the sculpture from multiple angles, including the reverse and base.
