Object Details

Catalogue Note

Dimensions: H 27.5 × W 7.5 cm | Weight: 1.2 kg | Origin: China | Period: late Qing to early 20th century

A slender standing figure identified as Amitabha Buddha, holding a closed lotus bud and standing on a lotus base. The warm brown-gold surface and elongated proportions give the sculpture a restrained devotional character.

Mark and iconography

The underside carries the four-character inscription Da Qing Yu Zhi (大清御製). The mark is recorded as part of the object but should not be treated on its own as proof of imperial manufacture or date.

Material and condition

Cast bronze or brass-rich copper alloy with dark oxidation and age-related rubbing. The lotus, drapery and base retain crisp decorative detail.

Iconography and Context

The composed posture and restrained expression belong to the visual language of Buddhist devotional sculpture. Balance, stillness and clearly readable gestures allow the image to function both as a sacred object and as a focused sculptural presence.

Condition and Display

The bronze surface shows the tonal variation, patina and raised-detail wear described in the catalogue note. The 10 photographs document the sculpture from multiple angles, including the reverse and base.
