Catalogue Note

A substantial seated Medicine Buddha modelled on a double lotus base. The lowered right hand holds a plant stem, while the left supports a small healing vessel. Finely incised borders articulate the robe across the shoulders, sleeves and crossed legs.

Surviving fire gilding remains across the face, torso, robe and base. Painted details are preserved at the eyes and lips, with dark blue pigment defining the hair.

Dating

The aged gilding, polychrome, patina and interior casting evidence are important material observations, but the current documentation does not support a defensible century. The sculpture is therefore catalogued without a speculative period attribution.

Condition

The surface shows natural wear and patina, including abrasion to exposed gilded areas. Separate inspection images document the thick-walled interior casting with oxidation and mineral deposits.
