An elegant standing Tara in a pronounced tribhanga pose, richly adorned with crown, jewellery and a lotus stem rising beside the body. The slender modelling and refined ornament are characteristic of Newar-influenced Himalayan Buddhist metalwork.

The base and a rear opening are closed or sealed according to the current record. This may indicate ritual consecration, but the internal contents have not been verified and are not described as certainly present. The 18th-century date likewise remains an art-historical attribution.

Condition

Antique condition with worn gilding, deep patina, mineral deposits, oxidation and age-related surface wear.

Iconography and Context

Tara is a central bodhisattva of compassion and protection in Himalayan Buddhism. Her poised posture and graceful gestures combine contemplative calm with the idea of compassionate action.

Condition and Display

Surviving gilding, darker recessed areas and wear on raised details create a layered surface. The 10 photographs document the remaining finish, patina, casting and base from multiple viewpoints.
