A matched pair of compact Himalayan Bodhisattva figures with substantial cast weight and individually finished surfaces. One figure is probably Avalokiteshvara, indicated by the lotus rising beside the shoulder; the companion figure has not been firmly identified.
Attribution
The pair has been associated with Nepalese/Tibetan work in a Pala-influenced tradition and attributed broadly to the 16th–18th century. Without inscriptions or early documented provenance, that date should remain an attribution rather than a certainty.
Material and condition
Both figures show old dark patina, copper oxidation and rubbed high points. Their undersides and surface histories differ slightly, consistent with individually cast objects that have remained together as a pair.
Iconography and Context
Guanyin, Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig is the bodhisattva of compassion. Crown, lotus, vase and hand gestures vary by region, but the subject consistently embodies attentive mercy and aid.
Condition and Display
The bronze / copper alloy surface shows the tonal variation, patina and raised-detail wear described in the catalogue note. The 10 photographs document the sculpture from multiple angles, including the reverse and base.
