A matched pair representing Sahasrabhuja Avalokiteshvara, the multi-armed form of the Bodhisattva of compassion. Their multiple heads and radiating arms embody Avalokiteshvara's ability to perceive suffering and respond in many directions.
The earlier catalogue once assigned a much earlier 13th–14th-century date, but the available evidence does not justify that precision. The pair is therefore conservatively catalogued as 19th century or earlier pending stronger comparative or scientific documentation.
