Catalogue Note
A substantial matched pair of Thai bronze temple guardians representing a male and female figure. Both kneel with the hands joined before the chest in Anjali Mudra, a gesture of reverence, welcome and devotion associated with sacred thresholds and temple settings.
The bronze surfaces retain traces of historic gilding together with deep brown and green patina and age-related wear. The pair is attributed to the 19th century, circa 1850–1900, following the earlier catalogue record for this same set.
Iconography and Context
Guardian figures traditionally marked entrances and sacred spaces. The paired male and female format combines protective symbolism with balance, while the kneeling Anjali gesture expresses humility toward the sacred.
Condition and Display
Age-related wear, patina and partial loss of gilding are visible across both figures. The 26 photographs document the matched pair from multiple angles, including surface, hands, crowns and bases.
