Catalogue Note
A sculptural ensemble of two antique Thai bronze fragments from the 19th century: a Buddha head and a separately cast ritual hand, each mounted on its own understated black display stand. The two fragments did not originally belong to the same statue, but are presented together for their shared material, period and Thai Buddhist context.
The Buddha head
The head has an elongated serene face, lowered eyes, long earlobes, tightly modelled hair curls and a high flame-shaped finial. The modelling is associated with 19th-century Rattanakosin Buddhist sculpture while retaining features derived from earlier Ayutthaya traditions.
The bronze hand
The separate hand is distinguished by long stylised fingers and a raised lotus or rosette motif in the palm. It survives as an independent fragment from a larger Buddhist image and has been mounted vertically for display.
Surface and condition
Both bronzes show dark brown, green and earthy patination, local oxidation, wear and irregularities consistent with age. The modern display mounts have some movement, so the fragments should be handled and repositioned carefully.
