Catalogue Note

Dimensions: H 15.5 × W 9.6 cm
Weight: 1 kg
Material: Heavy cast bronze
Tradition: Tibetan Buddhist
Dating: Attributed to the 18th century

A remarkably heavy image of a Tibetan scholarly lama seated on a double lotus base. Lotus stems rise beside the shoulders and support the sword and book associated with Manjushri, linking the teacher iconographically to the Bodhisattva of wisdom.

The exact historical lama has not been securely identified. The 18th-century dating remains an attribution based on the present stylistic and material assessment rather than a dated inscription.

Condition

Antique condition with deep patina, wear and an historically opened base.

Iconography and Context

The figure belongs to the wider visual culture of Asian Buddhist devotion, where posture, attributes and ornament communicate identity and ritual purpose. The complete photographic sequence helps these iconographic details remain readable from every side.

Condition and Display

The heavy cast bronze surface shows the tonal variation, patina and raised-detail wear described in the catalogue note. The 10 photographs document the sculpture from multiple angles, including the reverse and base.
