A small Green Tara following the refined Newar/Patan sculptural tradition. The figure is seated in lalitasana on a lotus base and has the balanced ornament and proportions typical of modern Nepalese devotional bronze work.
Iconography
Tara's hands form varada and vitarka gestures while lotus stems flank the body. The extended right foot expresses readiness to act on behalf of sentient beings.
Condition
Good decorative condition with minor surface wear. The open base and cleaned interior are consistent with a late 20th-century casting.
Iconography and Context
Vitarka Mudra is the gesture of teaching and reasoned discussion, usually recognised by the joined thumb and index finger. It connects the image with the transmission and explanation of Buddhist doctrine.
Condition and Display
Surviving gilding, darker recessed areas and wear on raised details create a layered surface. The 9 photographs document the remaining finish, patina, casting and base from multiple viewpoints.
