Catalogue Note
This mid-20th-century Thai wooden Buddha is hand carved from solid wood and seated in Dhyana Mudra, with both hands resting in the lap. At 42 cm high, it has enough scale to anchor a shelf, console or meditation space while retaining a calm, intimate character.
Carving and Iconography
The rounded facial modelling and balanced cross-legged posture emphasise stillness. Carved robe lines frame the torso and continue across the seated figure, while the carefully shaped hands make the meditation gesture immediately legible.
Wood and Surface
Visible grain, hand-finished contours and a smooth aged patina preserve the material quality of the solid wood. Subtle tonal variation across the robe, face and base gives the carving warmth and depth.
