Catalogue Note
A monumental seated Thai Buddha in bronze, approximately dated to c. 1500–1650. At 72 cm high and 14.2 kg, the sculpture has the scale and physical presence of an important temple image rather than a small domestic devotional figure.
Early Thai Buddhist sculpture
The broad seated composition and aged bronze surface create a powerful sense of permanence. Works of this scale were intended to command space, with the Buddha’s stillness contrasting against the substantial mass of the casting.
