Catalogue Note
A substantial Thai gilt bronze Buddha seated in meditation, with both hands resting in the lap in Dhyana Mudra. The figure combines a serene expression with flowing monastic robes and a broad, stable seated posture. The surface retains naturally worn gilding and patina; a separate UV image documents the fire-gilded finish.
Iconography and Context
Dhyana Mudra places both hands in the lap and expresses concentration, balance and meditative absorption. Its symmetry reinforces the sculpture’s calm, inward-looking presence.
Condition and Display
Surviving gilding, darker recessed areas and wear on raised details create a layered surface. The 17 photographs document the remaining finish, patina, casting and base from multiple viewpoints.
