A large and exceptionally heavy seated Buddha inspired by classical Sukhothai sculpture. The calm face, flame finial and balanced seated form give the image a strong architectural presence.

The Buddha is shown in bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching gesture associated with enlightenment.
Material and condition
Heavy cast bronze with a dark patina and normal surface variation from age and handling. This example is presented as a 20th-century Sukhothai-style sculpture rather than as a period Sukhothai antique.

Bhumisparsha Mudra is the earth-touching gesture associated with Shakyamuni calling the earth to witness his awakening. The lowered right hand turns the stable seated image into a direct reference to the moment of Enlightenment.
Condition and Display
The bronze surface shows the tonal variation, patina and raised-detail wear described in the catalogue note. The 12 photographs document the sculpture from multiple angles, including the reverse and base.
