Catalogue Note

A seated Chinese bronze Buddha with the right hand extended in the earth-touching gesture and the left resting palm-up in meditation. The robe is engraved with circular Shou medallions, a traditional Chinese symbol of longevity, alongside linear borders and flowing folds.

The surface has developed a warm, naturally varied patina with darker areas in the recesses and visible wear on exposed points. The open underside reveals remnants of the original casting core and the irregular interior of the hand-cast sculpture.

Iconography and Context

The composed posture and restrained expression belong to the visual language of Buddhist devotional sculpture. Balance, stillness and clearly readable gestures allow the image to function both as a sacred object and as a focused sculptural presence.

Condition and Display

The bronze surface shows the tonal variation, patina and raised-detail wear described in the catalogue note. The 12 photographs document the sculpture from multiple angles, including the reverse and base.
