This mid-20th-century Thai gilt bronze Buddha is seated in Bhumisparsha Mudra, the earth-touching gesture associated with Shakyamuni’s Enlightenment. The compact 16.5 cm figure combines clear iconography with a richly varied historic-looking surface.
Earth-Touching Gesture
The right hand extends toward the earth while the left rests in the lap. The stable cross-legged pose, calm expression and close-fitting robe create a balanced composition that reads clearly from both near and distant viewpoints.
Gilding and Patina
Traces of gilding remain across the bronze, interspersed with darker patina and lighter wear on raised areas. This naturally worn surface highlights the face, robe and contours of the seated figure.
