A monumental Shakyamuni Buddha seated in bhumisparsha mudra. The robe is enriched with hand-incised floral ornament, while the face, hands and lotus throne are carefully modelled in a refined Himalayan idiom.

Protected areas preserve warm gilt traces beneath a deep aged patina. Oxidation, mineral deposits and traditional casting features are visible, but these observations are not treated as stand-alone proof of age. The dating remains an art-historical attribution.

Condition

Antique condition with wear to gilding, patina and age-related surface variation. The base remains closed/sealed according to the current catalogue record.

Iconography and Context

Bhumisparsha Mudra is the earth-touching gesture associated with Shakyamuni calling the earth to witness his awakening. The lowered right hand turns the stable seated image into a direct reference to the moment of Enlightenment.

Condition and Display

Surviving gilding, darker recessed areas and wear on raised details create a layered surface. The 21 photographs document the remaining finish, patina, casting and base from multiple viewpoints.
