A monumental image of White Tara (Sitatara), richly cast and decorated with coloured cloisonné enamel. The figure is represented with seven eyes, a defining feature of White Tara iconography.
Iconography
The additional eyes appear on the forehead, palms and soles and express the all-seeing compassion associated with White Tara in Tibetan Buddhist practice.
Mark and attribution
The sculpture carries an apocryphal Qianlong mark. The mark is treated as part of the later Imperial Revival visual language and not as evidence that the work was made during the Qianlong reign.
Condition
The bronze shows extensive age-related surface wear, corrosion around the former iron base plate, enamel pitting and local old repair. These physical observations support an aged object but are not used alone to prove a precise date.
