Catalogue Note

Height: 12 cm
Weight: 450 g
Material: Bronze
Origin: Nepal / Kathmandu Valley tradition
Period: Mid-20th century, circa 1950–1970

A compact Shakyamuni Buddha cast in bronze and finished with hand chasing along the robe and lotus base. The figure follows the classical Newar-influenced Himalayan model and retains a naturally darkened surface.

The open underside shows the traditional cast construction. This is presented as a mid-century handmade Buddhist image rather than as an antique object.

Condition

Good vintage condition with patina and normal age-related wear.

Iconography and Context

The composed posture and restrained expression belong to the visual language of Buddhist devotional sculpture. Balance, stillness and clearly readable gestures allow the image to function both as a sacred object and as a focused sculptural presence.

Condition and Display

The bronze surface shows the tonal variation, patina and raised-detail wear described in the catalogue note. The 9 photographs document the sculpture from multiple angles, including the reverse and base.
