A substantial Nepalese Shakyamuni distinguished by finely hand-incised floral decoration across the robe. The after-cast engraving gives the surface a distinctly Newar workshop character and contrasts attractively with the darker bronze body.

Old mineral deposits and gilt traces remain visible, but these material features are not treated as conclusive dating evidence. The circa-1920 date is retained as a stylistic attribution.

Condition

Good older condition with patina, gilt loss, oxidation and normal age-related wear.

Iconography and Context

Bhumisparsha Mudra is the earth-touching gesture associated with Shakyamuni calling the earth to witness his awakening. The lowered right hand turns the stable seated image into a direct reference to the moment of Enlightenment.

Condition and Display

Surviving gilding, darker recessed areas and wear on raised details create a layered surface. The 10 photographs document the remaining finish, patina, casting and base from multiple viewpoints.
