Object Details

Catalogue Note

Dimensions: H 32 × W 25 cm
Weight: 3.3 kg
Material: Bronze with surviving gilding
Estimated period: circa 1920s
Region: South / Southeast Asia

A large bronze Buddha head with closed eyes, elongated ears and a softly modelled expression. Worn gilding survives in protected areas while the exposed metal has developed dark oxidation and a layered patina.

The circa-1920s dating follows the earlier MBKunstKontor listing for this exact 32 × 25 cm, 3.3 kg object. The precise country of origin remains uncertain, so the broader South / Southeast Asian attribution is retained.

Condition

Old condition with extensive gilt wear, patina, oxidation and surface marks from age and handling.

Iconography and Context

Presented without the full body, a Buddha head concentrates attention on the meditative expression, elongated earlobes, hair treatment and ushnisha. Surface and silhouette become especially important to the sculpture’s impact.

Condition and Display

Surviving gilding, darker recessed areas and wear on raised details create a layered surface. The 13 photographs document the remaining finish, patina, casting and base from multiple viewpoints.
