Catalogue Note
This Qing devotional sculpture represents Guanyin standing with a raised protective hand, calm facial features and flowing robes crossed by a sash. It was carved by hand from a single block of wood for an altar or niche.
Original leaf-gilding remnants survive in recessed and protected zones. Natural wear, patina and surface abrasion are consistent with long devotional use. No modern lacquer, repainting or structural restoration is present, and the sculpture remains stable.
Iconography and Context
Guanyin, Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig is the bodhisattva of compassion. Crown, lotus, vase and hand gestures vary by region, but the subject consistently embodies attentive mercy and aid.
Condition and Display
The carved hand-carved solid wood with original gilt remnants retains visible grain, tool-work and naturally varied colour. The 9 photographs document the carving, profiles, reverse and age-related surface character as part of the condition assessment.
