A substantial Thai Muchalinda Buddha protected by the multi-headed Naga king. The elaborate cobra hood and stepped throne create a strongly architectural composition associated with Buddhist protection and meditation.

The bronze retains worn gilding, darker patina and old casting material inside. The broad 1900–1950 dating reflects the present catalogue assessment rather than an inscription-based date.

Condition

Good older condition with gilt wear, patina, oxidation and normal age-related surface marks.

Iconography and Context

The composed posture and restrained expression belong to the visual language of Buddhist devotional sculpture. Balance, stillness and clearly readable gestures allow the image to function both as a sacred object and as a focused sculptural presence.

Condition and Display

Surviving gilding, darker recessed areas and wear on raised details create a layered surface. The 10 photographs document the remaining finish, patina, casting and base from multiple viewpoints.
