A compact Thai Buddha in the earth-touching bhumisparsha mudra, made in a richly ornamented Rattanakosin revival style. The tall crown, slender proportions and stepped throne give this small sculpture a distinctly courtly appearance.
It is presented as a later decorative-devotional bronze rather than as an antique.
Condition
Good condition with light surface wear and minor casting irregularities.
Iconography and Context
Bhumisparsha Mudra is the earth-touching gesture associated with Shakyamuni calling the earth to witness his awakening. The lowered right hand turns the stable seated image into a direct reference to the moment of Enlightenment.
