A Thai seated Buddha cast in bronze or a related copper alloy and finished with a deep dark-brown patina. The calm modelling and restrained surface give the figure a strong, uncluttered presence.

Iconography

The Buddha is shown in bhumisparsha mudra, with the right hand touching the earth and the left resting in meditation. The gesture refers to the enlightenment of Shakyamuni.

Condition

Good vintage condition with minor handling wear and natural variation in the dark patina. The hollow-cast construction is visible from below.

Iconography and Context

Bhumisparsha Mudra is the earth-touching gesture associated with Shakyamuni calling the earth to witness his awakening. The lowered right hand turns the stable seated image into a direct reference to the moment of Enlightenment.
