Catalogue Note

A substantial Thai bronze image of the crowned Buddha, known as Jambupati, seated cross-legged on a broad tiered pedestal. The figure wears a high royal crown and jewellery, while both hands rest at the lap around a small vessel. In Buddhist tradition, the regal form expresses spiritual authority over worldly power.

The bronze retains a naturally aged green and brown patina, with wear across the crown, face, robes and strongly patterned pedestal. The underside records a later internal reinforcement added for stability. Some surface areas show mechanical cleaning associated with earlier restoration, while the overall vintage character remains clear.

Iconography and Context

The composed posture and restrained expression belong to the visual language of Buddhist devotional sculpture. Balance, stillness and clearly readable gestures allow the image to function both as a sacred object and as a focused sculptural presence.

Condition and Display

The bronze with aged patina surface shows the tonal variation, patina and raised-detail wear described in the catalogue note. The 10 photographs document the sculpture from multiple angles, including the reverse and base.
